There’s only one thing better than a painkiller cocktail and that’s two of them. An interesting detail is that most bars recommend you stop at one and a few make that an actual limit.
They’re not that alcoholic with only two ounces of rum, but many bars serve them with three or even four ounces per drink. That’s where the danger lies, because the coconut cream and juices disguise the alcohol. More than one of the high-octane versions can leave you wasted very quickly.
If you read my recipe for The Pie We Eat On Derby Day, you know all about trademarks and names. Well, Pusser’s owns the trademark for the painkiller, but unlike others, allows use if you specify their rum. I don’t have a problem with that, because I love their rum and it makes a great painkiller.
Everyone has a story about being overserved with painkillers, but I’m not going to share mine. It’s about a certain someone at an anniversary dinner and you know who you are!
