Chili Crisp

5 alarm fire chili pepper condiment with onion and sesame seed

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup grapeseed oil
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds – toasted and crushed
  • 2 tsp dried, minced onion – toasted
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp sichuan peppercorns – lightly ground in a mortar and pestle
  • 1/3 cup red pepper flakes
  • 1 TBL gochujang Korean red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp accent

Instructions

  1. Place the sesame seeds in a non-stick pan and toast over medium heat until they begin to turn golden brown, about 1 minute. Transfer to a mortar and lightly crush them, then ptransfer to a small sealable glass container
  2. Toast the onion the same way for about 30-40 seconds until it becomes fragrant, then transfer to the same jar.
  3. Place the remaining ingredients in the jar and mix with a fork
  4. Heat the grapeseed oil in a small pot briefly over medium heat, but do not allow it to come to a boil, about 30 to 60 seconds
  5. Carefully pour over the spices in the jar and mix again with the fork
  6. Cover and allow it to cool to room temperature, stir again, seal the top and refrigerate overnight to let the flavors develop. Stir and remix before each use.
