Dinner at Guacamole – Louisville
She was a foodie, loved to cook and painted food, but did Freda Kahlo really say this?
The restaurant’s namesake guacamole was freshly made and delicious with all the traditional ingredients.
Queso fundido with Oaxacan cheeses and corn chips was a second obligatory appetizer, but they also offer sopes, aguachiles, salsas, molotes and cemitas.
Flautas De Pato: Duck confit with cherry tomato, fresno jalapano marmalade, crema, queso ranchero, pickled onion and Mexican slaw. It is, as they say “to die for”.
Carne Asada: Angus skirt steak, grilled onions, rajas, pasilla chile butter cilantro, chile de arbol salsa, jalapeno sauce served with refried black beans and tortillas.
Carnitas: Fried pork morsels, tomatillo sauce, rice, refried black beans, crema, pickled red onion and house made tortillas.
Burrito Al Carbone: Angus skirt steak, flour tortilla, queso crema, roasted tomatoes, pico, onion, rajas, lettuce, avocado, refried black beans and rice.
Lamb Colorodito: Braised lamb, colorodito mole, mixed lettuce, pickled red onion, toasted peanuts, sweet plantains and rice. Well seasoned, tender and juicy!
Dulce de leche cheesecake with chocolate crumble crust, mezcal chocolate ganache, candied pepitas and vanilla ice cream.
Home-made churros with chocolate ganache, cajete and mixed berry compote dipping sauces will satisfy that sweet tooth.
My favorite is goat cheese flan with passion fruit sauce, guafrette cookie, pina colada ice cream, berries and chocolate pearls.
